These elections for Cornwall Council on Thursday the 6th of May are the most important in a decade. You have a chance to decide between more of the same with the current coalition, or you can vote to make a difference with the Conservatives.

I have lived in Mullion since 1974, moving from Looe upon finishing school at Liskeard Grammar, and completing an apprenticeship in electronics and radio and commencing work at the then newly emerging Goonhilly Earth Station, as an Electronics Technician. Feeling the need to involve myself with my local Community I applied, and was appointed as a Special Constable at the then fully functional Mullion Police Station. I served for 40 years as a Constable, and was promoted to  Section Officer, finally being appointed the Police Neighbourhood Watch Coordinator, for all the villages on the Lizard peninsula. As part of this work, I attended all Lizard Parish Council meetings, and was tasked to progress many local issues... many of which, since retiring, I see have still not been resolved. My reason for standing for Cornwall Council now is to be able to revisit those issues at a County level where I can explain their critical importance in person, and serve our community once again. Now that I am retired from both the Police and Goonhilly I have the time and motivation to follow up on these past frustrations.

A Cleaner Community
A walk down any lane is greeted with the unpleasant encounter of dog mess. The issues here are threefold; firstly, owners not being prepared to collect these remains, secondly there not being enough places to put the remains, and third - the lack of enforcement by way of wardens and fines. If I am fortunate enough to be elected as your local Councillor in May, I will campaign to finally make a difference on this issue, and clean up our countryside.

Supporting Safer Roads
Speeding through villages has long been an issue, and now that technology has advanced, there is no longer a need to place obstructions in the road to counter the problem. We have seen average speed cameras being used to good effect in Trewennack, and when compared to the series of damaging lumps at Cury, I feel that investment in Technology is very appropriate in what is the main thoroughfare from Mullion to Helston.

Proper Public Services
If elected, I will concentrate my efforts on major, but still unresolved issues in the community. Local facilities are shut down during periods when visitors are few, there seems no consideration for the needs of local people who equally deserve to be catered for in the way of amenities. This is obvious at Poldhu Cove, where many locals spend their time, with no toilet facilities whatsoever.

Promoted by Will Elliott, on behalf of Anthony Soady, both of The St Ives Constituency Conservative Association, Unit 12, Ground Floor, Wharfside Shopping Centre, Penzance, Cornwall, TR18 2GB.
